Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is a medical term used to describe a group of neurological disorders that manifest in infancy or early childhood and permanently affect muscle coordination and body movement. “Cerebral” refers to something related to the brain, whereas “palsy” refers to problems or weakness with using the muscles.

Contractures

A contracture, also called a contracture deformity,is the lack of range of motion (ROM) in a joint due to structural changes in the muscles, tendons, ligaments,and/or skin excluding the bones. Symptoms include joint stiffness or the inability to move your joints freely.

Gait-related Issues

Gait refers to the pattern of walking. Gait analysis, also known as motion analysis, is a test to analyze how a patient walks and identify any unusual walking pattern. A proper gait is a result of correct coordination of the brain, muscles, and nerves all the time. Any disruption in this coordination may result in an abnormal walking pattern, indicating an underlying condition such as cerebral palsy, injury, or a disorder. A gait analysis test helps your physician discover the exact problem and determine the best course of treatment. A gait analysis involves various elements that provide a comprehensive picture of several factors contributing to a patient’s gait disorder.

Orthopaedics Complications of Neuromuscular Diseases

Neuromuscular diseases are disorders of the muscles and nerves associated with the nervous system. The nervous system comprises the brain, spinal cord, and nerves that connect the brain and the spinal cord to the rest of your body. Neuromuscular diseases affect normal body function, causing loss of sensation, muscle weakness, pain, improper coordination, and even paralysis.

Muscular dystrophy

Congenital muscular dystrophy (CMD) is a group of diseases affecting the muscles that occur at birth or during infancy. CMD is characterized by progressive muscle weakness and degeneration, severe joint stiffness (contractures) and delays in achieving motor milestones such as unassisted sitting or standing. Some forms of CMD may be associated with structural brain defects and mental retardation.
